Descriptions

Post-production is unique in that, two people can share the same job title while doing very different work day-to-day. Responsibilities vary between studios, productions, and even individual editors, making job titles a useful starting point—but not always an accurate reflection of the work itself.

Over the course of five years, the official title progressed from Assistant Editor to Editor, but the work itself expanded more gradually. Rather than replacing earlier responsibilities, new ones were added alongside them, with each production introducing new technical, creative, and collaborative roles.

This page attempts to provide context for that evolution. Rather than attempting to define what an Assistant Editor or Editor is, it outlines the responsibilities undertaken throughout that period, offering a clearer picture of the work behind the titles.
